At a town hall meeting on Monday focusing on the upcoming state budget negotiations, state Rep. Christian Mitchell, D-Chicago, emphasized the human impact of the proposed cuts to the state budget. That same evening Governor Rauner was at a  genre defying evening concert performance by Fifth House Ensemble and Baladino blending Mediterrean  and American  folk  traditions  in honor of the Israel.  In the governor’s brief remarks he promised to reinstate directs flights from Chicago O’Hara and Israel. He also stated that he will lead legislature that will have the state of Illinois to  cease  doing business with those companies that divest doing business with Israel.  Clearly the governor id more interested in assisting the well-of than he is in the underprivileged.

“It is important to know that the Governor’s so-called ‘shared sacrifice’ budget in no way asks his rich friends to contribute a little more,” said Mitchell. “In fact, he’s completely letting them off the hook by authorizing $100 million in tax cuts to some of the largest corporations in the state. He isn’t bluffing and unless we all stand up together and fight back, we will see major consequences in our community. I encourage everyone to reach out to the governor and let him know how important funding for education, social services, and healthcare is to our families and neighbors.”

Nearly 50 local residents, including representatives from the Women Infant Children (WIC) center in South Shore and Thresholds, a community mental health provider, gathered at Bouchet Math and Science Academy to share their thoughts on the importance of preserving the many critical state programs that Governor Rauner is proposing to slash. Mitchell is committed to working towards a responsible state budget that protects funding for vital social services and continues to seek the input of local residents.
