The revered beauty and cover director of ESSENCE magazine recently announced her retirement from the magazine for Black women. Mikki Taylor, a 30-year veteran of the magazine, is officially hanging up her hat later this month. She will continue to contribute to the magazine as Editor-at-Large and work with the creative director. “I am thrilled to continue to serve women of color in my new role as Editor-at-Large, with innovative platforms that showcase our beauty. Without a doubt, this is the most exciting period in the history of Black women ever and I look forward to this new threshold in my career that will allow me to inspire and be inspired by women around the world,” said Taylor. Taylor began her ESSENCE tenure in 1980 and quickly became the beauty editor, and later the cover director. “Mikki is truly an icon at ESSENCE, and we celebrate her accomplishments and thank her for her tremendous contributions. As an editor and personality in her own right, she has successfully expanded the boundaries of storytelling to honor the unique beauty of African-American women, and shared her knowledge in order to be of service and inspiration,” said Angela Burt-Murray, the magazine’s editor-in-chief. Taylor, the author of Self-Seduction: Your Ultimate Plan to Inner and Outer Beauty, will put her primary focus on her company, Mikki Taylor Enterprises. Copyright 2010 Chicago Defender
