The Met Gala has unveiled its 2025 dress code along with a new slate of celebrities on its hosting committee, per the Associated Press.
On Tuesday (Feb. 4), the Metropolitan Museum of Art revealed the dress code for its annual celebration of fashion in May as “Tailored for You.” The dress code is a nod to this year’s exhibit, “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style,” which will focus on Black style in menswear over the centuries.
The Met’s Costume Institute also announced Tuesday that it would be reviving its longstanding tradition of a “host committee,” adding a new slate of celebrity hosts to the mix.
Athletes Simone Biles and husband Jonathan Owens, Angel Reese, and Sha’Carri Richardson; filmmakers Spike Lee, Tonya Lewis Lee, and Regina King; actors Ayo Edebiri, Audra McDonald, and Jeremy Pope; musicians Doechii, Usher, Tyla, Janelle Monáe, and André 3000; author Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie; artists Jordan Casteel, Rashid Johnson, and Kara Walker; playwrights Jeremy O. Harris and Branden Jacobs-Jenkins; and fashion figures Grace Wales Bonner, Edward Enninful, Dapper Dan and Olivier Rousteing will all form the newly announced committee.
Pharrell Williams, Lewis Hamilton, Colman Domingo, A$AP Rocky, and LeBron James were previously named as the official co-chairs of the 2025 Met Gala.
The “Superfine: Tailoring Black Style” exhibit is inspired by Monica L. Miller’s book, “Slaves to Fashion: Black Dandyism and the Styling of Black Diasporic Identity.” The Met said the exhibit “presents a cultural and historical examination of Black style from the 18th century to today through the lens of dandyism.”
“Historical definitions of dandyism range from absolute precision in dress and tailoring to flamboyance and fabulousness,” Miller previously said.
The show will focus on Black dandyism and how Black people have used fashion to transform their identities.
“The theme this year is not only timely,” Usher, a member of the hosting committee, said, “but also speaks to our rich culture that should always be widely celebrated.”
