CHARLESTON, S.C. (AP) — A memorial is being dedicated on the South Carolina coast at one of the nation’s oldest black cemeteries. The memorial wrought iron arch is being dedicated on Saturday at the entrance to a black graveyard at Drayton Hall outside of Charleston. At least 40 people are buried in the cemetery that is still in use and dates to the 1700s. Director Lonnie Bunch of the Smithsonian’s National Museum of African-American History and Culture is among the speakers. The ceremony includes reflections by slave descendants as well as a reading of the names of those buried in the cemetery and those who once lived and worked at Drayton Hall.
