MEAC announces weekly hoop honors

VIRGINIA BEACH, Va.–North Carolina A&T State’s Nic Wilson was named the Mid-Eastern Athletic Conference Player of the Week, the league announced Monday. Bethune-Cookman’s C.J. Reed was named the Rookie of the Week while Delaware State’s Arturo Dubois was named the Defensive Player of the Week.

Wilson (F, 6-5, 210, Sr., Trenton, NJ) recorded a career-high 26 points and five rebounding while shooting 64-percent from the field in the Aggies conference opening win over Norfolk State. Coming off the bench, Wilson connected on 4-of-6 (66 percent) 3-point baskets, dished out one assist, registered two steals and blocked three shots to lead the Aggies to victory.

Reed (G, 6-3, 175, Fr., Daytona Beach, Fla.) averaged 15.5 points to lead the Wildcats to two victories last week. Against Webber International, Reed sank 6-of-13 baskets for 14 points including three assists, two rebounds and two steals. He posted 16 points with four assists and one steal in a 63-46 win over Florida A&M. He was named to the All-Tournament Team of the Chicago International Challenge Invitational.

Dubois (C, 6-8, 240, Sr., Harlem, N.Y.) averaged nine rebounds and three blocked shots in two matchups last week. Against Maryland Eastern Shore, Dubois collected eight boards and followed that performance with a double-double of 15 points and 10 rebounds in a non-conference matchup against Richmond.

Other top performances

Rogers Barnes (MSU) averaged 10 points, two rebounds, two assists and two steals in two games last week for the Bears.

Thomas Coleman (NCAT) collected 10 boards with two blocked shots while shooting 60 percent (3-of-5) from the floor in the Aggies win over Norfolk State.

Michael Deloach (NSU) totaled 51 points in two games last week for the Spartans. He connected on 11-of-26 shots for 26 points and two steals in a 66-93 loss to North Carolina A&T.

Reggie Holmes (MSU) averaged 19 points and 5.5 rebounds in two lead the Bears to a 1-1 mark last week.

Keishawn Mayers (UMES) tallied 20 points and 14 rebounds including 12 points in a 46-42 win over NJIT last week.

Neal Pitt (UMES) recorded 12 points and seven rebounds as the Hawks picked up their first win of the season against New Jersey Institute of Science and Technology (NJIT).

Frisco Sandidge (DSU) averaged 15.3 points and 9.6 rebounds in three games last week for the Hornets. He collected a double-double of 20 points, shooting 50 percent and 12 rebounds in a loss to Richmond.

Alexander Starling (B-CU) tallied 24 points, 16 total rebounds with three steals and two blocked shots to help the Wildcats finish 2-0 last week.

Kevin Thomas (MSU) recorded his second double-double of the season with 10 points and 10 rebounds, including two blocked shots, in a 62-48 win over Coppin State. Black College Sports Network
