Are you ready for some FOOTBALL? A “Beltway Brawl” comes to “Big Shoulders,” as defending MEAC Champion Morgan State University of Baltimore, MD faces off against east-coast rivals, Howard University of Washington, DC! The Bears and the Bison compete in the 18th Annual Chicago Football Classic at Soldier Field on Saturday, September 26, 2015 at 3:30pm.
Separated by only 47 miles, Morgan State University and Howard University announce their match-up in this HBCU rivalry at a City Hall PRESS CONFERENCE where Mayor Emanuel and City Council Aldermen will express their support for the Classic’s educationally-focused community mission, on Thursday, September 24, 2015 at 11:30 a.m. in Room 201-A.
“This year, we are showcasing two Historically Black Colleges and Universities (HBCUs) with a built-in rivalry. Who better than Morgan State and Howard? Two great academic institutions competing for athletic bragging rights. Besides, we must show these East Coast schools how we do it in the Midwest,” said Larry Huggins Co-Founder of the Chicago Football Classic.
Mayor Emanuel and City Council Aldermen from across the city will attend the September 24th Press Conference, to show their support for the Classic’s mission of promoting educational excellence for aspiring college students. Guests will include representatives from Morgan State University and Howard University. There will be a scholarship presentation to both schools.
“We are also saluting the work and commitment of Catholic Charities of Chicago, and Mr. Tom Ricketts, Cubs Chairman have shown in support of post-secondary education for youth, and alleviating the growing hunger problem through strong partnerships with the Chicago Football Classic,” says Co-Founder Everett Rand.
Impacting the community in another way, the Chicago Football Classic proudly announces its partnership with Catholic Charities of Chicago, who will launch the CFC ‘Anti-Hunger Food Drive’, and collect canned goods during the Sept. 26th Game-Day for their food pantry as part of their efforts to provide support to the 1 out of 6 Chicago individuals and families who don’t know where their next meal is coming from on a daily basis.
The 2015 Chicago Football Classic is back, bigger and better than ever! Rolling into Chicago under the theme of ‘Aspire to Inspire,” this annual football extravaganza will showcase half-time competition as well. Morgan State University’s Magnificent Marching Machine takes on Howard University’s Showtime Marching Band in a classic battle of the bands.
The 2015 CHICAGO FOOTBALL CLASSIC is being presented thanks to the support of local Chicago corporate business mainstays Sherman Dodge Chrysler Jeep RAM of Skokie and BMO Harris Bank, Co- Title Sponsors.
