Angelou, who will turn 80 on April 4, wrote her first book, I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings, in 1969. It was the first installment of her six-volume autobiography and it chronicled the first 17 years of her life.

In 1981, the renowned speaker accepted the first lifetime Reynolds Professorship of American Studies at Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, N.C. Angelou also wrote On the Pulse of Morning, and recited the poem at President Bill Clinton’s inauguration in 1993. For more information, call (773) 483-4300, or visit www.saintsabina.org.
