Poet, author, actress and professor Maya Angelou will speak at St. Sabina Church March 28 as part of the church’s African-American Speaker Series.
Angelou, who will turn 80 on April 4, wrote her first book, I Know Why The Caged Bird Sings, in 1969. It was the first installment of her six-volume autobiography and it chronicled the first 17 years of her life.
In 1981, the renowned speaker accepted the first lifetime Reynolds Professorship of American Studies at Wake Forest University in Winston-Salem, N.C.
