As a result of that initiative, Matteson is now home to the highest-grossing Pete’s Produce Market in the Southland area and has welcomed several new businesses like Amazon.

“Amazon’s distribution center has been one of the greatest additions to our city. In recent weeks Matteson has begun receiving portions of a minimum of 2 million dollars in tax revenue due to the high demand for the convenience company that has changed how we shop. The tax revenue generated from the city will help increase development for the various projects Matteson continues to develop.

Chalmers-Currin adds, “The Village of Matteson was thrilled to welcome Amazon to our town. As a global leader in the rapidly growing distribution industry, Amazon now has access to our exceptional regional workforce, a very vibrant business climate, and our continuing commitment to attract diverse forms of economic development. This project is clearly the economic engine that has attracted hundreds of jobs to our town.”

It has been nearly a decade since the Village of Matteson has had its own full-scale grocery store. However. in 2019 Mayor Chalmers-Currin and the Village Board announced that Pete’s Grocery store had begun renovating the Old Dominick’s store on Lincoln Highway. The store has opened and is performing record-breaking sales versus that of their other stores throughout Cook County.

Prior to 2018 the Village Board We were bombarded with various media reports concerning the closing of Sam’s Club. This was obviously a major setback for the President while only 8 months in office. But she refused to take “NO” for an answer. The President directed her team to get Sam’s Club back to the table. It was then after very intense negotiations, that the administration convinced Sam’s Club to not only return to the Village of Matteson but return with a more modern and diverse approach to doing business. From that, the Village of Matteson and Sam’s Club jointly announced the all-new Sam’s Club E-Commerce Distribution Center. The distribution center opened its doors in January of 2019!!  Moreover, the center has employed over 500 people and has announced extremely impressive sales. The Village of Matteson is now receiving huge sales tax returns from those revenues.

It is extremely encouraging to know that there is a high volume of residents throughout Cook County who desire to reside in the Village of Matteson. As a result, the Village of Matteson has just recently completed building over 400 new homes just less than a mile from Matteson Village Hall. Currently, plans are underway for additional new homes to be built.
