On Monday, January 18, 2016 from 9:00 AM to 6:00 PM the National Park Service will commemorate the 30th Anniversary of the National King Holiday. All park facilities will be open for visitor use including the Park’s Visitor Center, Historic Fire Station No.6, Historic Ebenezer Baptist Church (circa 1922) and Dr. King’s Birth Home.  One of the major highlights is the Open House tour of the King Birth Home that is conducted throughout the entire day.
The year 2016 also marks the Centennial of the National Park Service.  The Martin Luther King, Jr. National Historic Site was designated a unit of the National Park Service on October 10, 1980.  Since the creation of the park the National Park Service has educated the public on the childhood influences of Dr. King growing up in the Sweet Auburn community, and how it shaped the man and leader he would become. At this National Historic Site the National Park Service preserves and interprets the life and legacy of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. for the American people and the world.
All events are free and open to the public.
