The civil rights icon, who stood before the world and prayed a verse of the "Black National Anthem" at the inauguration of President Barack Obama, was released from the hospital. He reportedly spent the night for observation because of dizziness.
Lowery is scheduled to be honored as a lifetime achiever during Black Press Week, the 182nd anniversary of the Black Press of America this week. The award is being bestowed by the National Newspaper Publishers Association Foundation on March 19 during the organization’s annual Newsmaker of the Year Awards Gala. Lowery issued a statement saying he was grateful for the many prayers and calls in response to news of his illness.
