LINK Unlimited will host its 9th Annual DreamKeepers Awards Gala Wednesday beginning at 6:00 p.m. at the Fairmont Hotel. LINK Unlimited was founded in 1966 to provide economically disadvantaged African American high school youth who exhibit strong academic potential and leadership qualities with access to educational opportunities and mentoring. LINK scholars receive an academic scholarship to attend a rigorous, college preparatory high school and are paired for four years with an adult mentor including some of Chicago’s most distinguished professionals.
This year’s DreamKeeper’s Gala will recognize the contributions of Ed Wehmer, president and CEO of Wintrust Financial, who is a tireless advocate for the LINK Unlimited program. The Gala is the organizations annual fundraiser where over 600 of Chicago’s top business, philanthropic and community leaders come together for an evening of celebration to honor a key supporter of LINK Unlimited and Dr. Martin Luther King’s dream of equality and justice. LINK was founded in 1966, the same year Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. visited Chicago and was greeted with great hostility and contempt.
