CHICAGO (AP) — Dozens of landmarks across Illinois are to go dark Saturday night to mark this year’s Earth Hour. Earth Hour is an international effort by the World Wildlife Fund. Locally it is sponsored by ComEd. Residents are asked to turn off their lights from 8:30 p.m. to 9:30 p.m. to show a commitment to sustainability. In Chicago, landmarks like the Merchandise Mart, Navy Pier and Wrigley Field will go dark. In Springfield the Governor’s Mansion lights will be dimmed. Internationally more than 133 countries and thousands of cities are participating in the observance. Copyright 2011 The Associated Press.
