Leyeuna Alica Taylor

Leyeuna Alicia Taylor, co-owner of Taylor Funeral Home on Chicago’s Southside, has made her transition at the age of 92.

She finished high school at an early age and attended West Virginia State University, Worsham College of Mortuary Science, the Artistic School of Beauty Culture, and Northwestern University.

She was a funeral director, a cosmetologist, a certified teacher, a travel agent, a pilot, a business owner, and world traveler.

Leyeuna married Charles B. Taylor, and they had a dream. Together, they built an empire; Taylor Funeral Home (1963) on Chicago’s Southside, as well as C.B. Taylor Funeral Home (1982) on the Westside, and Gary Oak Hill Cemetery (1972) in Gary, Indiana.

She was a member of the IFDA (Illinois Funeral Directors Association), NFDA (National Funeral Directors Association, Cook County Funeral Homeowners Association, Funeral Director’s Wives Club, and the Flying Funeral Directors of America.

Mrs. Taylor joined her husband in the Masonic Fraternity as a member of Hiram Chapter #91, OES, Heroines of Jericho, Arabic Court #21, Daughters of Isis, and the Golden Circle.

She was entombed in her home state of West Virginia in a private ceremony with her family present.
