Laid-off Chicagoans react to Obama economy speech

Some jobless Chicago residents say they don’t blame President Barack Obama for the weak economy even though they’re still struggling to find work.

CHICAGO (AP) — Some jobless Chicago residents say they don’t blame President Barack Obama for the weak economy even though they’re still struggling to find work. Twenty-six-year-old Shelita Liddell lost her job as a child welfare attendant for Chicago Public Schools in June and was at an employment training center on the city’s West Side when Obama spoke about the economy Friday. She says Republicans try to block everything Obama tries to do to improve the economy and to increase benefits for laid-off workers. And she says people shouldn’t expect a quick recovery. Twenty-five-year-old Ashonti Prince says she doesn’t blame Obama for her joblessness, but a lot of people will when they vote in November. She lost her job in June as a receptionist with Chicago Public Schools. Copyright 2010 The Associated Press.
