CHICAGO (AP) — Former U.S. Transportation Secretary Ray LaHood will lead the search for Chicago’s next aviation commissioner.
A spokeswoman for Mayor Rahm Emanuelconfirmed Thursday that he has asked LaHood to head a search committee.
The statement from Kelley Quinn says Emanuel “is pleased that a former U.S. Secretary of Transportation will lead this effort given how critical O’Hare is to Chicago’s economic future.”
Current Aviation Commissioner Rosemarie Andolino announced last month that she will step down in October to pursue other opportunities in the aviation field, but in the private sector.
She has overseen the airfield modernization project at O’Hare International Airport.
Quinn says the search will start soon.
The new commissioner will be charged with fostering economic and job growth by making the city’s two airports more competitive.
