La La  Land

THE FILM TELLS THE STORY OF

Mia, an aspiring actress, who serves lattes to movie stars in between auditions and Sebastian, a jazz musician, scrapes by playing cocktail party gigs in dingy bars, but as success mounts they are faced with decisions that begin to fray the fragile fabric of their love affair, and the dreams they worked so hard to maintain in each other threaten to rip them apart.

Damien Chazelle’s last film Whiplash, had us looking forward to his next movie. The fact that it would be a musical with Ryan Gosling, Emma Stone and John Legend just made the anticipation hard to suppress.  My love for  jazz incited my interest even more.    Expectations were sky high from this team and I’m happy to say boy they met them…and then some.

The trailer is beautiful, from the formation of colors to the soundtrack and that it doesn’t give away any of the story.   It’s just intriguing enough to pull you in.  At the same  time the  movie and it’s music mix totally blows you away. The film theme is the basic love story–what happens when love is questioned? Is Love enough? Or Do you choose love or your career? So LaLA Land explores these circumstances old as love yet is presented in a way that resonates with anybody. The story unfolds with such great impact that  you are  bound to be moved, touched and hopefully inspired.

Ryan Gosling, sings — who knew?   Emma Stone reveals her hidden talents as well. Both were quite impressive in their  their dancing and singing  presentations.  Ryan has always seemed very comfortable with the characters he’s portrayed delivering seamless performances  and I’ve loved Emma Stone’s  natural acting is as well. They do not disappoint.   John Legend plays a character that ids all about what he knows so well, so he comes off believable and memorable. He has some nice lines.

The lead characters may be struggling in certain fields but it is their dreams they are chasing at the end of the day…Something we all have done or are in the process of doing. This makes you quickly connect with these people and what they’re going through. Throw in some comedy, love, drama and magical soundtracks as well as sequences and you have yourself a masterpiece.

It’s been a while  since we’ve seen la movie like this one. Damien Chazelle has once again proved himself definitely a filmmaker with a future for t years to come!
