Kwame Kilpatrick requests to be released from prison until sentencing

Just one week after being immediately remanded to prison following his conviction, ex-Mayor Kwame Kilpatrick has asked that he be released until sentencing. He requests to be let out on bond to spend time with his wife and children in Texas before serving his sentence.

After being convicted on 24 counts related to racketeering, mail fraud and other charges, he was immediately committed to custody at Milan Federal Correctional Facility by U.S. District Court Judge Nancy Edmunds.

In his motion, Kilpatrick has stated he doesn’t have any money, is not a flight risk and poses no danger to the community.

Some Detroiters have expressed their opinion that the overall outcome of Kilpatrick’s case was too harsh. Others disagree and feel that it’s a much needed lesson as a result of the ex-mayor’s alleged misconduct while in office.

At this time, what matters most is the opinion of the court. Will the judge let Kwame out?
