King speech subject of lecture

The University of Illinois at Chicago will commemorate Martin Luther King’s April 4, 1967 speech against the Vietnam War with a lecture series entitled “African American Peacemakers as Agents for Change.”

Wednesday, Beverly Guy-Sheftall, Black feminist scholar, and founding director of the Women’s Research and Resource Center at Spelman College, will discuss African American women peacemakers. Thursday, Bill Fletcher Jr., founder of the Black Radical Congress and senior scholar for the Institute for Policy Studies in Washington, will discuss African American peacemakers on a global stage.

Friday, Manning Marable, professor of public affairs, political science, history and African American studies at Columbia University, New York, will present an historical view of African American peacemakers. All lectures will be at the UIC Forum, 725 W. Roosevelt Rd., from 5 to 6:30 pm in Room F.
