A freshman at Harold Washington College in Chicago is in critical condition after police and relatives say he was shot in the head late Thursday afternoon after handing over his cell phone during a robbery.
Chicago Lawn resident Kevin Baker was walking home from classes with his cousin, a senior at DePaul University, when two robbers approached from a dark-colored van in the 6200 block of South Campbell Avenue around 4:15 p.m., the Tribune reports.
Baker, 19, and his cousin Dominique both handed over their phones when the robbers — one holding a handgun — demanded them. Police said the victims did everything right, but as the robbers were running away, one turned and shouted something at Baker before shooting him in the head, CBS Chicago reports.
