On Saturday, Kenwood Academy emerged victorious against Whitney Young, securing the Chicago Public League (CPL) football title for the second time in three years. The Broncos triumphed 26-19 against the Dolphins at Fritz Pollard Field in Lane Stadium.
On Friday, Nov. 24, Kenwood will play the St. Rita Mustangs — a team they lost to earlier this season — in the Marquee Sports Network Chicago Prep Bowl in a battle between the Public League and Catholic League football championships.
Kenwood’s head football coach, Sinque Turner, expressed delight at joining the ranks of elite coaches who have clinched multiple City Championships. After the game, Turner highlighted the team’s resilience, noting the teams that did defeat them this season.
“It feels wonderful to be among some elite coaches in winning the City Championship multiple times,” Kenwood head football coach Sinque Turner said. “We did face a lot of adversity this year, but a lot of the teams that beat us are still playing (in the IHSA state playoffs).”
The Broncos boast an 8-4 record. The team’s only losses came against Lincoln-Way East, Downers Grove North, Morgan Park and St. Rita.
