MIAMI — A federal jury in Miami has begun deliberating the fate of six men charged with plotting to destroy Chicago’s Sears Tower and bomb FBI offices around the country. The 12-person jury got the case Monday after a two-month trial. Two previous trials of the so-called "Liberty City Six" ended in mistrials when juries couldn’t reach unanimous verdicts. One man was acquitted but is being deported to Haiti. The men were arrested in June 2006 on charges of plotting with al-Qaida to blow up the Sears Tower and attack FBI offices in an attempt to topple the U.S. government. Defense attorneys say terrorist talk recorded on FBI tapes wasn’t serious, and the men only wanted money. Each of the six face 70 years in prison if convicted. ______ Copyright 2009 Associated Press.
