Climatologists say June was one of the wettest months on record for the state of Illinois. The University of Illinois’ Jim Angel says statewide precipitation in June was 5.3 inches, about 1.2 inches above normal. That makes it the 25th wettest month on record. Angel says that from January to June, precipitation totaled 24.2 inches, about 4.8 inches above normal. Those six months rank as the 14th wettest on record for Illinois in that time period. The community of Belvidere, near Rockford, got the most precipitation in June, with 8.75 inches of rain. The National Weather Service’s forecast for July says there’s an increased chance of below-normal temperatures in parts of northern Illinois and above-normal precipitation across much of the state. ______ Copyright 2009 Associated Press.
