A federal judge in Chicago has approved the release of almost $20,000 from former Gov. Rod Blagojevich’s campaign fund to pay its final bills. Judge James Zagel approved the release of the money Thursday in what amounts to a housekeeping measure as the Friends of Blagojevich campaign fund is converted into a source of legal defense money for the ousted governor. The fund that once propelled Blagojevich’s political career is now being used mainly to pay the team of lawyers trying to keep him out of federal prison. The $19,695 approved for disbursement mainly covers rent and legal fees. ______ Copyright 2009 Associated Press. All rights reserved.
