In October 2021, Tanika Ray launched the Mamaste podcast. The podcast touches on relatable lifestyle topics such as self-care, conscious parenting postpartum, and generational trauma healing. Ray created the much-needed platform for mothers to be seen and heard, especially Black women, who are two to three times more likely to die from pregnancy and child-related problems, according to the CDC.

Recently celeb moms, Beyonce and Serena Williams shared their experiences with giving birth and the importance of being one’s “own advocate” in the process.

Tanika says, “Mamaste is a sanctuary for the mommy collective where we amplify our wellness, self-love, self-care, life lessons, unapologetic boundaries, expanding ideologies, empathy, rituals and practices of Mommying AF”

In celebration of Black Maternal Health Week (April 11-17), the Chicago Defender spoke with the proud mommy about how Black women can be better advocates for themselves during pregnancy and postpartum and the community of mothers she has created with the Mamaste Podcast.
