CHICAGO (AP) — Ground has been broken on a new home for the Jesse White Tumbling Team.

Illinois Secretary of State Jesse White broke ground on the new community center on Chicago’s North Side on Wednesday. The center will have a state-of-the-art gym, computer labs and meeting rooms.

The city of Chicago, its park district and the Jesse White Foundation are funding the center.

White founded the nonprofit tumbling team in 1959 in an effort to provide recreation, athletics, education and cultural offerings for team members. Members are as young as 6-years-old and must keep a "C” average in school. They have to stay in school and away from gangs and drugs.

Over the years the team has performed in movies, on television shows and at half-time of professional sporting events.
