ABC is looking to Jermaine Fowler for its next offbeat family comedy.
The network is teaming with the comedian for a semi-autobiographical comedy based on his life, The Hollywood Reporter has learned.
The untitled entry, which has received a script commitment, hails from ABC Studios and would star Fowler as a college dropout who winds up living with his estranged grandmother, a former DC cop who provides the perfect mix of parenting, laughs and adventure that gets him off the couch and out into the world.
Fowler will exec produce alongside 3 Arts’ Avi Gilbert and Michael Rotenberg.
Fowler, a stand-up comedian, is part of College Humor’s touring cast. He’s been featured on MTV2′s “Guy Code” and Comedy Central’s “Comedy Underground With Dave Attell.”
He co-created, writes and stars in TruTV’s sketch comedy “Friends of the People.” His scripted credits include a co-starring role in an NBC comedy from The Office’s Greg Daniels that did not move forward.
