Chicago-born actress-singer Jennifer Hudson celebrated her birthday in the city. Hudson, who returned to the United States shortly after spending time in South Africa portraying Winnie Mandela in the upcoming film "Winnie," performed at a gospel concert at Christ Universal Temple on Sunday for her 29th birthday. The audience was treated to performances by Kelly Price, Shirley Murdock and Ricky Dillard and New G, among others. Hudson told the crowd all the performers were some of her “favorite artists.” The ‘holy ghost party’ –– as many throughout the night identified the celebration –– also doubled as a fund-raiser for the starlet’s Julian King Foundation in honor of her slain nephew. The foundation will provide toys for children during the holiday season. Copyright 2010 Chicago Defender (Defender/Worsom Robinson)
