The “person of interest” in the case involving the triple murder of Oscar winner Jennifer Hudson’s family will remain behind bars.
William Balfour, the estranged brother-in-law of Hudson, was named by Chicago police as a person of interest in the Oct. 24 homicides, but two days after his arrest, he was transferred to the Ill. Dept. of Correction’s custody on a parole violation.
At an administrative hearing Monday, the Illinois Prisoner Review Board chairman said there is enough reason to keep Balfour locked up.
Witnesses said the 27-year-old was seen with a gun that matches the .45 caliber handgun used to kill the family, and he frequented a home where drugs were allegedly sold, said Jorge Montes, chairman of the review board.
At the time of the murders, Balfour was on parole for an attempted murder and vehicular hijacking convictions.
Hudson’s slain mother and brother were found by Julia Hudson, the singer/actress’ sister, the afternoon of Oct. 24 in the family’s home in the 7000 block of South Yale Avenue.
Julia Hudson’s 7-year-old son, Julian King, was missing from the home, and the brother’s white Chevy Suburban SUV was also missing.
The boy was found fatally shot inside the SUV three days later on the West Side.
Balfour has maintained his innocence, according to sources, and allegedly refused to take a polygraph test.
His next parole hearing is scheduled for Dec. 3.
Chicago police said Balfour remains their only person of interest and have not ruled out the possibility of others being involved.
No suspects have been named, police said.
