It must be nice to be  able to be totally self-expressed.   To have the  sense of comfort to do what you want regardless  of what others think. To be a man and choose to wear a skirt without claiming a different sexual orientation is  brave. Jaden  now join his sister Willow Smith in the gender bending risks taking game. It’s a freedom that few experience and even less for Blacks. However being the son of  Hollywood  Royalty Jaden Smith is doing exactly that.

He’s fulfilling his fashion destiny and taking his daring  approach to apparel with Louis Vuitton. Will and Jada’s 17-year-old heir has just been announced as the newest face of the fashion house’s Spring/Summer 2016 campaign. That sounds about right, right?  Well yeah until you realize that he’s made his fashion debut in pieces from Louis Vuitton’s women’s collection, debuted at Paris Fashion Week. It’s true.

In Instagram posts by the brand’s artistic director Nicolas Ghesquière, shots of Smith were premiered. The shoot, snapped by photographer Bruce Weber, features the young actor/rapper in pieces clothing designed for women but certainly becomes unisex the way he wears.  Jaden’s persona that shines through conveys the Scottish kilt feel associated with men. Poised and very comfortable he actually pulls it off. Nothing about him comes off feminine.

“I’m just expressing how I feel inside, which is really no particular way”

Smith’s barrier-breaking sartorial choices have been buzzed about since he was first seen sporting a dress earlier last year. He has since worn a dress to prom, as well as a Batman costume to Kim Kardashian and Kanye West’s wedding.

Jaden is reported  as telling  GQ Magazine  his motivations behind his fashion choices, marking them as a form of expression.

Could Jaden Smith be channelling the kilts of old or not?

“I’m just expressing how I feel inside, which is really no particular way because everyday it changes how I feel about the world and myself, but I like wearing super drapey things so I can feel as though I’m a super hero, but don’t have to necessarily wear super hero costumes everyday.”

One thing is for sure. He’s a confident young man.
