Over the years, playwright Jackie Taylor has produced many bio-cantatas featuring some prized and highly regarded entertainers. Her current work that follows along that vein, "A Tribute To The Black Crooner (Yesterday, Today and Tomorrow)" is on stage at Black Ensemble Theater, 4520 N. Beacon Street.

Billy Eckstine, Nat King Cole, Roy Hamilton, Joe Williams, Johnny Mathis and the legendary Arthur Pry sock are remembered in Black Crooner as men who turned their strife into moving expressions, creating amazing musical sounds of beauty.

The production not only highlights classic crooners but also some newer names: John Legend, Brian McKnight, Musiq Soulchild and the late Luther Vandross.

The production was written by Rueben Echoles, Black Ensemble Theater’s associate artistic director, and Dawn Bless with Echoles directing and Jackie Taylor producing.
