As Chicago Artist Month comes to a close you still have the opportunity to experience some works of extraordinary artists throughout the city. One such artist Candace Hunter has work included in four shows. As a Diasporal Rhythms (DR) Honoree in two shows – the Chicago Art Department (CAD) in Pilsen and the Chicago State University’s Presidents’ Gallery, a semi-finalist in the Bombay Sapphire/Rush Philanthropic Midwest Show at Gallery Guichard and inclusion in the Autumnal Showing at Christ Universal Temple.
For the CAD show, she created a prototype for a large-scale public work titled, “Loss/Scape”. It is about the immeasurable loss of Human Capital from the continent of Africa in the years between 1500 and 1866. Gifted as a multi-talented interdisciplinary artist Candace authored an accompanying book “Loss/Scape” available by order.

Take time to visit the galleries featuring beautiful art by our own artists and please join Candace this Saturday the 26th from Two until Six for the closing of the DR/CAD show located at 1932 S. Halsted. The reading for Loss/Scape is this Saturday, the 25th at 4pm. The Curatorial Conversation is at 2:30 with Mike Nourse, Patric McCoy and the five honored artists: Adedayo Layo, Tony Wade, Peter Gray, Raub Welch and moi!

At four, there will be a reading of “Loss/Scape” and a chat on how to take it to it’s next phase. Some of Chicago’s best theatrical talents and Jeff Award winners will be reading and possibly, a surprise musical guest to boot! Join us and join the discussion!
