Illinois House members investigating whether Gov. Rod Blagojevich should be impeached are reviewing evidence they’ve heard in hearings since Dec. 16. Jim Durkin is the Republican co-chairman of the special impeachment committee, and he says members were given a draft of testimony and asked for input. It doesn’t contain conclusions or recommendations. Committee member Lou Lang says the document could serve as a basis for a report on whether Blagojevich committed impeachable offenses that would be forwarded to the House for consideration. Democrats plan to meet in House Speaker Michael Madigan’s office Tuesday to discuss the draft before the committee resumes its work. Members say a committee vote on whether to recommend impeaching the governor could come Wednesday or Thursday. Blagojevich says he’s innocent of charges that accuse him of trying to trade Illinois’ open U.S. Senate seat for campaign contributions or another job. ______ Copyright 2009 Associated Press.
