Illinois inspectors say they’re set to make sure thousands of rides are safe this summer as residents go to carnivals, amusement parks and streets festivals. The Illinois Department of Labor is responsible for inspecting any public rides or attractions that are open to the public to ensure they meet safety requirements. The department inspects about 5,000 rides a year. State officials say ride-goers should make sure they wear safety belts and harnesses, and remain seated while the ride is operating. They’re reminding families to pay attention to instructions from ride operators and follow all age, height and weight requirements. ______ Copyright 2009 Associated Press. All rights reserved.
