The Illinois Tollway’s board of directors has agreed to pay an additional $12.3 million to a toll-collection company that officials last May said failed to issue violations for a year. Tollway officials say Texas-based Electronic Transaction Consultants deserves the added payment because it did more work than called for in its original five-year $69.5 million contract, awarded in 2005. ETC manages the tollway’s revenue and maintenance program. Board members initially refused to pay the company more because they said it needed more oversight.

Tollway officials say they’ll hire seven employees to monitor ETC. Last year, Director Brian McPartlin said the tollway was withholding payments to ETC because it wasn’t sending notices to toll-skipping drivers.
