SPRINGFIELD, Ill. — Illinois officials are warning schools to get ready for another outbreak of swine flu. The Public Health Department and the State Board of Education on Friday urged schools to make plans now for how they’ll handle the problem. They say schools need to monitor absences so they can quickly spot signs of a flu outbreak. They encourage schools to isolate students and faculty who show flu symptoms and to send them home quickly. Officials also want schools to communicate with parents about arranging to care for sick children. The board of education says flu vaccinations will be offered at many schools, but there won’t be a formal statewide program of vaccinations at each school. Since April, nearly 400 Illinois residents have been hospitalized with swine flu and 17 have died. ______ Copyright 2009 Associated Press. All rights reserved.
