SPRINGFIELD, Ill. — A proposal to let voters get rid of unpopular governors is making its way through the Illinois House. The legislation has been approved in committee and could come up for a vote by the full House on Friday. If it’s approved by the House and Senate, voters would decide next year whether to amend the constitution. Recall would give the public a chance to remove someone they consider unfit to serve as governor. To do it, they would have to get the support of 30 legislators and then collect hundreds of thousands of signatures in just five months. If that happened, then there would be a special election on whether to remove the governor. ______ Copyright 2009 Associated Press. All rights reserved.
