A generation of photographers and readers owe a debt of gratitude to Darrell “Worsom” Robinson. The legendary Chicago photojournalist who captured the city’s most memorable events and moments died on Nov. 27 after battling a long illness, says his family.
Whether in politics, entertainment or sports, Robinson’s work left an indelible mark on the media landscape, especially through his work with The Chicago Defender, Chicago Crusader and Chicago Sun-Times.
Robinson chronicled vital, iconic moments such as former President Barack Obama’s farewell speech at McCormick Place in January 2017 and numerous sporting events, including Bears games and Chicago high school sports.
News of Robinson’s passing generated a flood of reaction from social media as friends, family, mentees, colleagues and admirers paid their respects. He was memorialized as a “Chicago photography legend” and an “awesome force,” among many other kudos.
