SPRINGFIELD, Ill. — The top Republican in the Illinois House wants the governor to take quick action on commissions that could help the state budget and economy. Rep. Tom Cross of Oswego says Gov. Pat Quinn should make appointments to the commissions soon so they can get to work. One is a "sunshine commission" that’s supposed to study ways of making government more efficient. Its report is due Nov. 1. The other panel is the Economic Recovery Advisory Commission. It’s supposed to make suggestions on strengthening the state economy by Sept. 1. The Democratic governor signed orders setting up both commissions late last month, but he hasn’t yet appointed the members. ______ Copyright 2009 Associated Press. All rights reserved.
