Gerald Washington, a 25-year Park Supervisor for the Chicago Park District, is the current supervisor for Hayes Park. He provides a variety of recreational opportunities for youth, teens, adults and seniors. Raised in the Cabrini Green community for 21 years, Gerald, watching his mother serve as one of the leaders in the community, found that being involved and caring for community was important for all residents, at a noticeably youthful age.
In 2015, Gerald developed his own way of providing service to his community, by creating The Blu-Olympics. The event, later renamed The Willie & Zora Washington Blu-Olympics in honor of his parents, is created to give youth ages 6–14 an opportunity to experience sports outside of the usual Basketball, Football, Baseball, and Cheerleading.
Gerald has been married to his lovely wife Veronica for 32 years, has two lovely children, Elijah & Alexaundria. He enjoys drawing, being a DJ, and assisting people with establishing healthy fitness habits by facilitating fitness classes and he is also responsible for re-establishing “Block Parties” on his block, for community involvement.
