Justin Slaughter has been the Illinois State Representative for the 27th District since January of 2017. In 2019, Representative Slaughter became the Chairman of the Illinois House Judiciary Criminal Committee where he has been recognized as a local and national leader on criminal justice reform and a key stakeholder regarding all public safety matters for Illinois. In 2021, Representative Slaughter made history as the House Sponsor of both the SAFE-T Act and the Reimagine Public Safety Act.
Prior to becoming a legislator, Representative Slaughter attained a wealth of experience within the government sector. Justin is the former District Director for both Cook County Commissioner Stanley Moore, and then Illinois State Senator Kwame Raoul. He is also a former Policy Advisor to Illinois Governor Pat Quinn. His career also includes extensive experience working within government agencies, as he once served in the Offices of the Cook County Bureau of Administration and the Board of Commissioners.
Justin has a Political Science degree from the University of Chicago and a Master’s of Public Policy and Administration from Northwestern University. A native Chicagoan, Representative Slaughter lives on the far Southside of the city with his Wife, Catrena, two sons, Russell and Jace, and daughter, Juliana.
