The Illinois Supreme Court appointed Judge Chantelle Porter as a Circuit Judge in the 18th Judicial Circuit of DuPage County. She is the first Black female judge in DuPage County and the only elected Black Circuit Judge. Judge Porter has been a dedicated advocate for children and families throughout her career. She began as a Guardian ad litem with the Cook County Public Guardian’s Office, representing hundreds of children in the foster care system. She later became the supervisor of the DuPage County Public Defender Juvenile Division. Judge Porter also served as a court-appointed Guardian ad litem in abuse and neglect cases in DuPage County.
As a partner at A. Traub & Associates, Judge Porter practiced Family Law, Juvenile law, DCFS, and Abuse and Neglect and served as a GAL in Domestic Relations in multiple counties. She is a trained mediator and parent coordinator.
Judge Porter’s leadership includes serving on the Illinois CASA Board, the Illinois Children’s Justice Task Force, and the Illinois Judicial College Committee on GAL Education. She is active in the Illinois State Bar Association and the DuPage County Bar Association and is a Past President of the DuPage Association of Women Lawyers. Judge Porter earned her law degree and Family Law Certificate from DePaul University.
