Homeless Advocate Opens New Business

Candice Payne-Founder and CEO of Action for a Cause- will be joined by Homeless Advocates, Homeless Clients, not for-Profit Executives, other Chicago Aldermen, State Officials, residents Administrators, Elected Officials, and Community leaders as she will present to the public her all-new Organic Smoothie RX Loop Store. However, like other ventures in which Ms. Payne has engaged, this shop will address various issues impacting Chicago’s Homeless community.

Ms. Payne has developed a national reputation as a premier homeless advocate who provides housing here in Chicago, Illinois, and beyond. Her charitable deeds have garnered her national news coverage featured on MSNBC, CNN, New York Times, and other media outlets both locally and nationally.

“Ms. Payne has now taken her philanthropic deeds and tapped into the business world. The south loop welcomes her vision and mission to ensure that no person goes homeless in Chicago. By offering full-time jobs with competitive wages, Ms. Payne now can move individuals from being homeless to occupants of housing.” says Bishop Larry D. Trotter.

Two years ago, Ms. Payne personally assisted two homeless families with fully rehabbed spacious two-bedroom apartments. These families have been horribly challenged by the horrific dangers of the COVID-19 crisis that had shook America. These apartments are completely free to these three families for one year.

“People experiencing homelessness are uniquely vulnerable to contracting COVID-19, and to experiencing harsher effects of the virus. These effects disproportionately impact people of color. So, I could not just stand idle and remain quiet. This RX Smoothie Store allows us once again to march one step towards eliminating this deplorable epidemic “says Payne.

The Smoothie shop will employ eleven full-time people with competitive wages.   Much of the revenue generated will be used to address housing issues that will be used to create more opportunities for the homeless population to restore their lives and enhance their families.

Action for a Cause, in collaboration with the Safe Haven Foundation, completely rehabilitated these spacious apartments with the sole intended purpose of creating a wonderful quality of life for a family that has been overburdened with the issue of homelessness. These two specific apartments are two bedrooms, two bathrooms, a full kitchen, living room, and modest closet space. The Safe Foundation was thrilled to embrace Ms. Payne in this partnership.

“At A Safe Haven, we help people move from homelessness to independent housing either within our networks or with our partners. On behalf of all of us at A Safe Haven we cannot thank Candice Payne enough for the wonderful opportunity to partner and collaborate with her and her team to move formerly homeless women into their new ‘generously donated one-year rent-free apartment!” says Neli Vazquez Rowland, President & Co-founder of the Safe Haven Organization.

Candice Payne has rapidly become a nationally recognized champion for the homeless. In the historically frigid Chicago winter of 2019, Payne and her staff successfully move 122 homeless individuals into 70 hotel rooms for five days. Her unique generosity afforded her the opportunity to make guest appearances on popular television shows that presented her with financial gifts geared towards continuing her advocacy for the homeless.

Ms. Payne’s non for profit, Action for a Cause, has blessed hundreds of individuals who have been fighting homelessness for years. Through the Action for Cause Organization, Ms. Payne has enjoyed enormous success in rehabbing homes. In 2018, she was presented with the Cook County Land Bank Authority’s prestigious Project of the Year Award.

Her undying spirit to become an independent businesswoman came to fruition in 2016 when she opened her very own brokerage, 5th Group Realty. She also opened a Spa in the heart of Bronzville entitled, Body Werks Spa.
