SPRINGFIELD, Ill. (AP) — Enrollment for winter heating assistance has begun at the 35 local agencies that administer the program throughout Illinois.
The agencies are beginning to process applications on a first come, first served basis. Priority enrollment for seniors, the disabled and families with children under age 5 began earlier this year.
The Low Income Home Energy Assistance Program is a state-federal program for low-income families. A single-person household can be eligible for assistance with a monthly income of up to $1,396. A two-person household can qualify with a monthly income of up to $1,891.
