A hearing is set for next week to decide if a Chicago private school must repay a $1 million grant it got from the state that former Gov. Rod Blagojevich’s administration said was a mistake. The hearing before an administrative law judge is May 20. The hearing had been scheduled for Wednesday but was postponed after the Loop Lab School changed attorneys again. Blagojevich had meant to give the $1 million to help rebuild the Pilgrim Baptist Church after it was gutted by fire in 2006. But the money mistakenly went to the school, which rented space from the church. The school used the money to buy a downtown condo. Attorneys for the state Department of Commerce and Economic Opportunity say the school owner has repeatedly changed attorneys, causing a delay in the case. ______ Copyright 2009 Associated Press.
