Healthy clinic to open at elementary school

Students and immediate families associated with Reavis elementary school in Hyde Park will be able to get health services inside the school later this month.

In a partnership with the Near North Health Service Corp. and the Quad Communities Development Corp., the school received part of a four-year $18 million grant from Atlantic Philanthropies to open the school-based health clinic, said a program director for QCDC.

“The clinic will have three exam rooms that will offer physicals, various health screenings, individual and family counseling, nutritional counseling and weight management,” said Syda Cegovia-Taylor, program director for Elev8, the name of the grant awarded to Reavis.

The facility will be housed in the northwest area of the school, and the services would be free for the students and their families as long as a consent form is signed, said Cegovia-Taylor.

Alderwoman Toni Preckwinkle (4th), who represents the ward where the school is located, 834 E. 50th St., welcomed the school strengthening its bond with the community by adding the health services.
