SPRINGFIELD, Ill. — It’s back-to-school time, which means flu season is right around the corner. State health offices are offering advice to colleges about preventing swine flu and seasonal flu. Illinois public health director Dr. Damon Arnold said Thursday that colleges should encourage students, faculty and staff to get seasonal flu shots when the vaccine is available. Colleges also should be ready to separate sick people from those who are well. Students sick with flu should stay in their residences until at least 24 hours after their fever drops below 100 degrees Fahrenheit. And, if possible, students living in campus housing should return to their family home while ill. Colleges also should schedule frequent cleaning of desks, tables, chairs, doorknobs, handrails and computers. ______ Copyright 2009 Associated Press. All rights reserved.
