Health Care Service Corporation (HCSC), the largest customer owned-health insurer in the United States, has appointed a new Chief Diversity, Equity and Inclusion (DEI) officer. Claudia (Raquel) Daniels has more than 20 years’ experience developing and integrating DEI principles and best practices into Fortune 500 companies, most recently as director of Diversity, Equity and Inclusion at Southwest Airlines.
Daniels will lead implementation of HCSC’s long-term vision and goals for DEI both internally and externally, in alignment with the company’s mission, values, and business strategy.

HCSC has received numerous awards highlighting its commitment to DEI, including 2022 Forbes Best Employers for Diversity and 2022 Military Friendly Employer.
The company’s annual Diversity, Equity and Inclusion profile highlights the company’s diverse profile and yearly accomplishments.
- In 2021, nearly 45% of the company’s approximately 24,000 employees were people of color: 18% African American; 13% Latino; 9% Asian American; 2% two or more races and 1% Native American. Nearly 37% of HCSC’s management team and 33% of Directors, Executives and Vice Presidents are people of color. 73% of employees identify as women, including 65% of managers.
- More than 6,000 HCSC employees belong to nine different Business Resource Group communities, which align employees with common interests or backgrounds.
- An annual calendar distributed for 27 years features the artwork by the children of HCSC employees illustrating their views on diversity and inclusion.
