HBO Max Amplifies Black Voices at Chicago Launch of Scene in Black

Last Saturday was a celebration of Black voices as HBO Max rolled into Chicago to celebrate the launch of its Scene in Black initiative. This audience-centered venture is the streaming giant’s latest social-first platform aimed at amplifying Black content, talent, and creatives by connecting them with their fans. To commemorate the Chicago launch, HBO Max hosted an evening of entertainment, food, and activations at Revel Fulton Market.

Doors opened at 4 pm, as the venue filled with over 300 people. With everyone submitting negative COVID tests before entering. Once inside, guests received complimentary tote bags and t-shirts. Followed by a variety of food options from local Black-owned restaurants. Which included Two Fish Crab Shack, Phlavz, and Frii Style.

While waiting for the main events to begin, DJ Sean Mac entertained the crowd with a selection of music. HBO Max also provided various activations including interactive photo and confessional booths, and a mock set-up from its series, “South Side”. As well as giant-sized games for all to enjoy.

Shortly after, guests made their way into the screening room as WGCI’s Trey White took over as host. After welcoming the crowd, HBO Max’s multicultural marketing team took the stage. Giving a background on Scene in Black and telling the audience what they can expect.

A special screening of the first two episodes of “South Side” premiered, followed by a Q&A with the show’s stars. Which included Bashir Salahuddin, Chandra Russell, Quincy Young, and Sultan, Salahuddin. Closing out the evening were performances by R&B singer, BJ the Chicago Kid and rapper, G Herbo.
