William R. Harper High School’s Marcus Williams participated in the 2010 Illinois Institute for Entrepreneurship Education Conference Jump Start Business Plan Competition.  In competition with 10 Chicago area high schools and 15 finalists, Williams won first place and was awarded monetarily for his presentation of his Williams Cleaning Services business idea.

The senior has a 3.2 GPA and in his spare time, he assists the Englewood community by volunteering at Imagine Englewood If and Safety Networks Coalition, which are nonprofit community organizations.   Williams won the 2010 Martin Luther King Remembrance and Celebration Scholarship. Following graduation this month, he plans to attend Hope College in Holland, Mich. and major in electrical engineering.

“Learning the concept of entrepreneurship and how operations are ran within a business provided me with the awareness that small businesses are the start of new job creations and that I can either get a job or create a job by implementing my own business ideas,” Williams said he learned from the entrepreneurship competition.
