The Mayor Harold Washington’s Legacy Committee (HWLC) declared a city-wide “Harold Washington Day”. The day that initiative will take place is on April 18, 2022. The Committee is requesting everyone to wear their Harold Washington buttons, pins, bumper stickers on their cars and have their signs visible in their store/house windows. If anyone needs a button they can email, doublej24@att.net. If people would like to order a commemorative t-shirt in honor of the late Mayor Harold Washington they may do so at mhwlc.com.
Mayor Harold Washington was the first African American mayor elected in 1983. His birthday is on April 15th and he would have been 100 years old this year. The HWLC wants to keep the memory of Mayor Washington alive. They desire to bring awareness to the generations who weren’t around when he was alive and to reenergize those who were present. The mission of the HWLC is to perpetuate his legacy.
